About Us

Whispering Hills Day Care Society (WHDCS) is a non-profit charitable society, in the community of Athabasca, that has been providing child care for over 30 years, growing with the community and expanding to meet the needs of families in our area. We currently operate three licensed and accredited child care programs in three separate locations in Athabasca, all within public buildings and each serving different age ranges.
Our University Day Care Site, located at Athabasca University, was our first site to open in 1984 and currently serves children 0-3 years of age with those children ‘graduating’ to our Multiplex Day Care Site. Our Multiplex Day Care Site opened in 2008. It is located at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex and serves children 3-5 years of age. Lastly, our Out of School Care Program serves children 5-12 years of age and is located within the Whispering Hills Primary School.

All three of our programs are recognized by Alberta's Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services (AELCS). We are very proud of our Accreditation status and work hard every year to update and maintain the quality of standards set out by AELCS.

Our Services

  1. Certified Child Care Staff
Early Learning and Child Care is provided by educators with Early Childhood Development Certificates and/or who are enrolled in Early Learning and Child Care courses. The staff routinely attend conferences and workshops to enhance their professional development.
  2. Quality Programs
Our Society participates in various forms of quality enhancement and assurance processes in order to stay current on Early Learning and Child Care Best Practices, to monitor and evaluate our program policies and developmentally appropriate practice.
  3. Open Door Policy
Parents and guardians are welcome to participate in the daily activities and are encouraged to visit their child at the Centre when their schedules permit.
  4. Nutrition
Our day care programs provide healthy meals and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide. Our Out of School Care Program offers nutritious supplementary snacks in the afternoon.
